Bio: Peter Deswood III is a high school principal in Farmington, New Mexico and has taught for over 15 years at both the high school and college level. He is Tachiinii, born for Kinlichiini. His maternal grandfather is Ashiihi and his paternal grandfather is Toaheedliinii. Originally from Lukachukai, he is the son of Maggie Deswood and the late Peter Deswood Jr. He is also the founder of 21st Century Native leaders, a podcast that profiles prominent leaders in the Native community. Peter is the Board Chairman for the Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI).

He was also previously employed as a staff accountant before deciding to pursue a career in education. After making the initial switch from business to education, Mr. Deswood taught at the Indian Community School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and on the Navajo Indian Reservation at Chooshgai Community School in Tohatchi, New Mexico. 

Currently, Peter is working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. In addition, he has a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership with a Principal Certification from The Pennsylvania State University. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Accounting from Fort Lewis College. Mr. Deswood has three beautiful daughters, who are respectively 11, 14, and 25 years old. Peter is married to Kari Deswood, an Assistant Professor at San Juan College.
